Frequently asked questions
General
CCPRD is a special tax district, separate from the City of Prineville and Crook County, with its own boundaries.
As of April 1, 2022, Crook County Parks and Recreation will be charging an out-of-district-fee. Residents who live outside the boundary set for the CCPRD tax base are encouraged to participate in all facilities and programs. Out-of-district residents do not pay property taxes that support the district and will be charged an additional 25% for programs and facility passes. District residents, who support our services through property taxes, enjoy lower program costs. If you need help determining if you live inside the district boundaries, please see the GIS map, or call us at (541) 447-1209.

Honoring a person or group with the dedication of a park bench or tree is a special way to celebrate their life and achievements. Through the Commemorative Gifts program, our parks team will work with you to find an appropriate location for a park bench or tree that can mark a lasting legacy for your special pet, person, or group.
If you are interested in placing a monument or memorial in one of the parks, please read our Monument and Memorial Policy on our Parks page to get a better idea of what is allowed.
Not all park restrooms and water fountains are winterized, and we do have an unfortunate vandalism and damage problem in several park restrooms. Therefore, some restrooms are only open seasonally or as we are able. Crook County Parks and Rec makes a concerted effort to keep as many restrooms open as long as possible each day and throughout the year.
Domestic animals must be on a leash while on district property. Dogs are allowed off-leash only in designated areas. Dog owners must control their animals at all times and comply with ORD 90.1-90.99 which outlines the responsibility of pet owners to keep their dogs on a leash and in control at all times and to pick up dog waste.
We have a process with the City of Prineville for transient vendors – An application from the City of Prineville is needed and can be found here https://www.cityofprineville.com/cityadministration/page/permits.(https://www.cityofprineville.com/cityadministration/page/permits) Once you have the application, you will need to come to the Parks and Recreation office for review and approval of your intended location and times.
LOCATIONS Available:
Vending is currently allowed at; Pioneer, Ochoco Creek, and Stryker Parks. Transient vending at Parks will not be permitted during organized events. If you wish to sell during an event, you must contact the organizer to become a vendor of the event.
The parks and recreation SDC fees are collected by the city but managed by the Park & Rec. District. The basic concept of a SDC is that “growth pays for growth”. This protects the city’s existing utility customers from subsidizing new development through higher taxes and utility rates. The fee schedule can be found here https://www.cityofprineville.com/cd/page/system-development-charges(https://www.cityofprineville.com/cd/page/system-development-charges)
